Orange color shines in Turku to end violence against women

Turku joins the UN's global campaign by lighting the city in orange to raise awareness and stand against violence toward women, in an initiative driven together with organizations from the Women's Health Hub Finland.

The City of Turku, together with other regional partners, is participating in the global UN Orange Days campaign by illuminating its buildings in orange from 25 November to 10 December, and by encouraging its staff to wear orange on Tuesday, 25 November.

The purpose of the Orange Days campaign is to raise awareness about violence against women and the work of UN Women, the UN’s gender equality organization. The color orange symbolizes hope for a future in which everyone has the right to live free from violence.

In Turku, orange lighting will illuminate, among others, the Library Bridge from 25-28 November 2025, the Joki Visitor and Innovation Centre from 1-7 December, as well as the entrance of Business Turku in Kupittaa at the Turku Science Park, the main building of Åbo Akademi University, and the façades of Bayer’s Turku production facility and the diagnostic company Wallac/Revvity. In addition, organizations such as the Turku-based research company Pharmatest and Turku University of Applied Sciences will participate by encouraging their staff to wear orange during the campaign.

The initiative for the city’s joint involvement in the campaign originated from companies within the Women’s Health Hub Finland, founded in Turku. The network brings together leading pharmaceutical and diagnostics companies, researchers, and public-sector actors who collectively support the advancement of women’s health and innovation at a global level.

The UN’s international Orange Days campaign to end violence against women begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25 November and concludes on Human Rights Day on 10 December.
