The approximately 300-pupil primary school building will also include special support small-group classrooms. In addition, the building will accommodate two pre-primary education groups.

Planning for the new Luolavuori School is continuing. SRV and the City of Turku-owned real estate company Kiinteistö Oy Turun monitoimitilat have signed a development phase agreement for the implementation of the new Luolavuori School building.

The new school will be constructed on the site of the former demolished school building at Luolavuorentie 36. The school will continue to serve as the local neighborhood school. The approximately 300-pupil primary school building will also include special support small-group classrooms. In addition, the building will accommodate two pre-primary education groups.

Sports Facilities for Community Use

The planned size of the school is just over 9,000 gross square meters. The school will include a medium-sized sports hall of more than 700 square meters, which will also serve local residents. Special attention will be paid to accessibility, barrier-free design, and the building’s energy efficiency during the planning process.

"It is important for us to create safe and healthy facilities that will serve pupils, staff, and city residents throughout their long lifecycle. The new Luolavuori school building will meet the energy efficiency requirements of the City of Turku’s climate plan, as well as the standards for sustainable construction, P1 cleanliness classification, and Healthy House criteria," says Seppo Saaristo, CEO of Kiinteistö Oy Turun monitoimitilat.

Project to Begin in May

The project, which will be implemented as a collaborative project management contract, will begin with a development phase in May 2026. The total estimated cost of the project is approximately €34 million. At the end of the development phase, the client will separately decide whether the project will proceed to the construction phase.

The development phase is expected to last nine months. The project plans and schedule will be refined during this period. The goal is for the new facilities to be operational in the spring semester of 2029.

"As Finland’s largest builder of public and commercial facilities, we bring extensive expertise in constructing modern learning environments and collaborative contracting to the Luolavuori School project. This type of collaborative contract is especially well suited for school construction and enables flexible implementation while closely listening to the client’s needs," says Jani Peltomäki, Regional Director for Southwest Finland at SRV.
