To the Big Leagues: Chilean Video Game Studio Announces Partnership with Blumhouse

Playmestudio, the creators of The Signifier, have officially announced their partnership with Blumhouse Games (the video game division of BlumHouse Productions) for the development and release of their next title: The Simulation.

This is a significant step for the local horror video game industry. The Chilean studio Playmestudio has announced a collaboration with Blumhouse Games, the video game division of the renowned Blumhouse Productions, known for cinematic successes like “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” “Paranormal Activity,” and “Get Out.”

The American firm is now venturing into the world of video games, and “The Simulation,” created by the national studio, stands out as one of the launch titles for this new division. The announcement was made on the stage of the Summer Game Fest (California, USA), currently the world’s leading industry event, where the most anticipated titles for the coming months and years are showcased.

“The Simulation” grabs attention in Blumhouse Games’ debut catalog as the only original Latin American title. “With ‘The Simulation,’ we want to create a unique horror video game that takes creative risks,” explains David Fenner, Creative Director of Playmestudio.

“This ambition, combined with our desire to develop video games with a high artistic and cinematic component, means that our collaboration with Blumhouse Games allows us to reach much further than initially expected,” adds Fenner.

An Enigmatic and Terrifying Plot

In “The Simulation,” an enigmatic horror video game is the only evidence found at a crime scene. As a retired video game developer, the player becomes an investigator hired to look into the case, which soon leads to the discovery of a mysterious game mode that delves into unknown depths.

As new and dark video games are revealed, the player will cross the fourth wall of their worlds and investigate terrifying truths that transcend their own reality. This game promises not only to boost adrenaline but also to immerse the player in a world full of mystery, psychological tension, and an excellent adult plot with significant human content.

The announcement of this collaboration marks a significant milestone for Playmestudio, as it can be considered a recognition of their talent and creativity on the global stage, opening new doors for Latin American video game developers.

“If what we did in our previous game, ‘The Signifier,’ is horror, it is not traditional horror. The horror in the game is something ‘philosophical’ and creates a unique kind of atmospheric tension, deep narrative, and fear that many people truly appreciate. It seeks not only to boost your adrenaline by fearing a monster attack but also to deeply immerse you in the game world and play with your mind, keeping you on the edge of your seat about what might happen, the fate of the characters, and the meaning of the things you see and experience. We could say it is more of a ‘Lynchian’ horror,” says Fenner.

In this regard, he states that “with ‘The Simulation,’ we decided to fully delve into horror, maintaining the narrative intensity and depth of our first title, ‘The Signifier.’”
