Smartpaper: startup uses AI to simplify the work of teachers and academics
The platform features a variety of functions, such as those that allow planning classes, creating research projects and theoretical frameworks, in addition to other processes that used to take months and now only take five minutes, according to its creators.
Class planning, creation of theoretical frameworks, or the development of research projects are necessary tasks, but they take up much of the time of teachers and academics, which generates a significant workload. However, a startup from Temuco proposes using technology to alleviate this work and devote more time to students.
Smartpaper is a startup that was born three years ago in the city of Temuco, led by two professionals who saw in Artificial Intelligence (AI) a solution for those working in the educational field.
The name refers to the automation of a process that for a long time was developed only on paper and that, thanks to AI, offers a range of benefits to those who apply it. Easy and intuitive to use, the platform has a variety of functions that can be performed without the need for knowledge in this technology or training.
According to Sergio Reyes, a sociologist, master in education, and co-founder of Smartpaper," we have a set of key solutions for the world of scientific research and education. Our idea is to solve historical problems for teachers and academics".

For his part, Ivo Perich, an electronic engineer specialized in artificial intelligence and also co-founder of the startup, explains that "we create AI tools that are easy to use by everyone and regulated. Smartpaper serves to allow teachers and academics to spend less time on office work and more time on human tasks such as direct interaction with students or research".
The creators of the platform highlight that during these three years of existence, they have received support such as a Corfo fund (2024), as well as backing from the Ministry of Foreign Relations through ProChile. Currently, they are also part of the portfolio of the 3IE Institute, the business incubator of the Technical University Federico Santa Maria, through its Sponsorship service and its Mentor Network 3IE-USM. In relation to this, they highlight that "they have helped us a lot. For a new company, it is sometimes very difficult to order certain things, especially project management. They have been a great support in that sense", acknowledges Sergio Reyes.
Target Audience
Among the benefits for the creatives using this platform is the fact that "processes that used to take months, now take five minutes, and others, even with the support of AI, can take weeks, we are able to develop them in minutes. We are talking about a reduction of at least 90% of the time in most cases", explains Ivo Perich.
Currently, their solutions target groups such as researchers, teachers, universities, and educational technology companies. In this regard, they have partnered with the Inexoos and Napsis group, a conglomerate that operates in various countries and that is present in more than 1,200 schools. They also emphasize that they are currently designing new tools focused on the business world.
"Our business model is to provide these capabilities for free to schools and tech companies. With no integration costs, they only pay for their monthly usage, which is extraordinarily economical. Our vision is for this to truly become massive," concludes Perich.
