Four small and medium-sized cheese businesses from the Los Lagos Region will begin to export and market their products on Amazon USA in the coming months, thanks to the program "Export of quality cheeses from the Los Lagos Region to the world", co-funded by Corfo, operated by Codesser, and managed by LAP, a Chilean startup focused on cross-border eCommerce.
The pioneering Chilean SMEs - all of them from the south of our country -, which will enter this platform with their dairy products, and which are currently preparing and acquiring all the knowledge to export and boost their first sales in the North American market through Amazon.
According to the latest quarterly results from Amazon, the company increased its net sales by 13% compared to the same period the previous year, reaching US$ 143.3 million. In North America, the net sales increased by 12%, rising from US$76,881 million to US$86,341 million. In addition to this, data from the United States indicates that 7,000 products are sold per minute.
One of them corresponds to Lácteos Maipué, producers of chanco and mantecoso type cheeses -in different formats-, which are made with raw material from the community of Purranque. Jessica Sánchez, legal representative of this small business stated that "this is a great opportunity to export our products thanks to what we have learned about ecommerce sales, and thus be able to open up to new markets in the world".
Likewise, Lacteos Puyehue, a family-owned small business with 66 years of history in the south of our country, is part of this project. They have 13 types of cheese, all gluten-free, and divided into three groups: soft, semi-hard, hard, and grated cheeses.

The third small business benefiting from this program is Orígenes del Campo, who have a sustainable production chain that yields 100% natural products free of chemical preservatives, derived from "happy cows". Additionally, they offer eco-friendly packaging.
They have a variety of gourmet butters, natural and flavored cream cheeses, Brie and Camembert cheeses, among others. The fourth small and medium-sized enterprise to land in the United States is cheese produced by Mario Santana, whose main characteristic is that they are buttery and artisanal.
Regarding this initiative, the co-founder of LAP, Felipe Reyes, stated that "we are in a preparatory phase in which these small dairy companies and cheese factories are acquiring various knowledge, from entry regulations to the United States, to how to manage their orders, inventories, shipments in a simple and easy way, among other important details that will allow them to maximize their commercial and logistical management in the country where they are marketing their products".
"We are confident that once these small and medium enterprises start exporting and enter Amazon, they will receive a great reception and acceptance from American consumers, who will be able to enjoy premium 100% Chilean products, made with natural ingredients from our country, which makes them unique. Therefore, I believe that this variety of cheeses has a high added value and potential to be sold in this market," concluded Reyes.
