6 Chilean biotechs strengthened their international ties at the Swiss Biotech Day and GIS 2026
Furthermore, at the Global Innovation Summit (GIS 2026), the Eureka Network, which is commemorating 40 years, awarded a recognition to the Chilean company West Ingeniería for its Outdoor IntraLog Robot project, developed in partnership with the Finnish firm GIM with the support of Corfo.
Chilean companies from the biotechnology sector participated last week in a mission to Switzerland aimed at strengthening the country's presence in international networks of innovation, investment, and technological development. The delegation, supported by Corfo and led by the CBT of Sofofa Hub, included Codebreaker, Phagelab, Luyef Biotechnologies, Synergiabio, FQP and Pewman. Companies that attended the Swiss Biotech Day 2026 and GIS 2026 to hold networking meetings, explore collaboration opportunities and position capabilities developed from Chile in front of global actors in the Life Sciences ecosystem.
The Chilean mission stood out in one of the main international spaces for the biotech industry, an event that combined plenary conferences, panels, company exhibitions, networking sessions, among other spaces. In this context, the participation of Chilean companies aimed to increase the visibility of the national biotech ecosystem and, at the same time, take advantage of a concrete instance of matchmaking to connect with international counterparts, present solutions, identify scaling gaps, and start conversations with potential partners.

"Chile could not be absent from this event. These opportunities allow us to shorten distances with networks that concentrate technical, commercial, and regulatory capabilities, especially in sectors where market entry requires early collaboration with international actors. We have seen the solid progress of many companies and EBCTs in the development of biotechnological R&D intensive solutions, applied to sectors as diverse as mining, agriculture, pharmaceutical and aquaculture. Today there is a critical mass of companies at the technology frontier that, along with international partners, can co-design highly innovative and scalable solutions for international markets," said Jocelyn Olivari, Innovation Manager of Corfo.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the CBT of SOFOFA Hub, María Paz Merino, affirmed that "what we saw in this mission confirms that Chile has tangible capabilities to develop high-impact solutions and project them to the world. The challenge now is to advance in a greater integration between science, infrastructure and application. In this direction, we are working to boost a world-class biotech industry".
Chile at Global Innovation Summit 2026 (GIS)
The Chilean delegation's agenda also included participation in the Global Innovation Summit 2026 (GIS) of the Eureka Network, held as a side-event of Swiss Biotech Day. This allowed the connection of the biotech meeting's sectoral specialization with Eureka's international cooperation tools, a network of more than 45 public innovation agencies, including Corfo, which promotes collaborative R&D+i projects oriented to market and led by companies.

The national participation in this instance featured the presence of the Chilean ambassador to Switzerland, Carla Serazzi, who was part of a panel alongside Marc Pauchard, president of Eureka; Brit Helle, general director of Eureka; Mark Andries, general manager of the Belgian agency VLAIO; and Christian Dubarry, director of European Affairs at Bpifrance, who addressed the value of Eureka for their member countries. Also in attendance were Consul Natalia Nahmías and the Innovation Officer for Prochile Germany, Marina Turshatova.
In the conversation, Ambassador Serazzi emphasized the tangible opportunity that joining Eureka has meant for Chile to overcome structural productivity barriers and connect its innovators with the European R&D ecosystem.
In this space, moreover, one of the central axes of the mission to Switzerland was addressed: preparing Chilean companies for the "Multilateral Call in Biotechnology 2026", a call for which Chile is part of, through Corfo, and which closes in September 2026. This call is aimed at supporting collaborative R&D+i projects led by companies from different countries of the Eureka Network, in areas such as resilience and traceability in the health supply chain, scaling and manufacturing of complex therapies, targeted radiopharmaceuticals and innovative modalities for cancer treatment, agricultural and veterinary innovations, among other lines.
Eureka Recognition to Chilean Innovation
At the Global Innovation Summit 2026, the Eureka Network awarded international recognition to West Ingeniería, a Chilean company supported by Corfo, for the development of the Outdoor IntraLog Robot project, an industrial automation solution for outdoor logistics operations. The initiative, developed in conjunction with the Finnish company GIM, was selected as one of the three standout projects by this network to mark its 40th anniversary.
"Eureka allowed us to transform an industrial challenge we identified from Chile into a solution with international reach. The collaboration with GIM was key to incorporating new technological capabilities and demonstrating that a regional company can develop applied innovation for high-demand industries," said the CEO of West Ingeniería, Guillermo Soriano.
The recognition of West Engineering reinforces the value of the technological cooperation promoted by Eureka and the role of Corfo as a national agency and the only Latin American representative of the network at this global event. Meanwhile, the participation of Chilean companies at the Swiss Biotech Day and the GIS 2026 sends a clear signal: the internationalization of Chilean innovation demands active presence in global networks, sustained public support, and companies capable of transforming technical knowledge into market-oriented solutions, with high potential for scaling.
