Matt Murdock vs. Wilson Fisk in "Daredevil: Born Again": Two Men Fighting Against Their Own Nature
In the new original series from Marvel Television, the paths of this iconic MCU duo cross again, as each tries to escape from their own shadows of the past.
What would Daredevil be without Kingpin? And what would Kingpin be without Daredevil? Fans of Marvel know that it's impossible to think of one without the existence of the other, and Daredevil: Born Again confirms it. The new series from Marvel Television releases new episodes every Tuesday on Disney+ and marks the reunion of these historic archenemies after years of leading parallel lives.
Interpreted once again by Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio, Daredevil/Matt Murdock and Kingpin/Wilson Fisk reunite one more time in New York, where Murdock fights for justice through his thriving law firm and Fisk serves as mayor. The calm waters, however, do not take long to become turbulent when a wave of crime and corruption in the city reconnects them with each other... and with their past.
"Daredevil: Born Again" finds Matt Murdock leaving behind his life as Daredevil to focus on his career and a promising new relationship with therapist Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva). While the intention is real, it will not be so easy to achieve.

Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk enters the story after his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the 2021 series Hawkeye. Now, Fisk returns to New York after a long absence, where he manages to take on the role of mayor and is determined to leave behind his days of mafia and corruption. The task, however, is not easy, and his frustration grows in the same way as his obsession with Matt Murdock.
A CLOSE BOND INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE SET
D'Onofrio observes: "Daredevil: Born Again is, in a way, a story of two broken men trying to fix themselves". And the question is whether they can achieve it or not. I guess the metaphor of this series is that of vampires trying not to live in darkness. "Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk try to live in the daylight like everyone else, but they realize that it's simply not possible".
On his part, Cox points out: "Vincent and I are in a very particular situation, since we have been portraying these characters and building this world for a long time. I believe that, as we have become great friends and care for each other as people, it is easier for us to portray emotions such as indifference and hatred".
In the same vein, executive producer Sana Amanat asserts that the connection the actors have off-camera becomes evident in the series, allowing for exploration of the bond between Murdock and Fisk from multiple angles. "We wanted Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk to face off in an epic battle, but we also wanted that battle to be as political and complex as it is action-packed. It's not just about the physical, but also about their ideology, their strategy, how they use other people and manipulate the system against each other to get what they want," concludes the producer.
Two men fighting against their own nature
The creative team behind the new production assures that exploring the characters of Murdock and Fisk is the essence of the story. For showrunner Dario Scardapane, the theme of internal conflict connects the arcs of these leading characters.
"Both men carry a dark past. For Matt Murdock, that dark past is Daredevil, and for Wilson Fisk, it's Kingpin. The tragic feature of their personalities is that they both end up surrendering to the darkest side of their true nature, and drag each other towards it. We wanted to take that tension to a point where, literally, it could not hold, and everything started to fall apart and explode," he explains.
