Chile significant actor at Seafood Expo Global Barcelona with record exports of sea products to Spain

In 2024, US$ 353 million in seafood were exported to the Spanish market, a 28% increase from 2023.

Between May 6 and 8, a delegation of 14 Chilean companies from the seafood industry was present at the Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, one of the most important business fairs in the sector in Europe.

The Chilean offer was comprised of Mar de Lagos, Landes, Australis, Bagasur, Integra Chile, Caleta Bay, Manuelita, Pesquera Catalunya, Proyecta Corp, Sea Garden, Pacific Gold, Aysén Coho, Friosur, and PVA Chile, who will set up in a stand with two spaces of 144 m2.

The new edition of the fair arrived in a positive context for Chile's sea food exports to Spain, after achieving US$ 353 million in 2024, the highest figure of exports in the sector to this market, with an increase of 28% compared to what was exported in 2023. This, given that it is a country with high demand in fishing and aquaculture products due to its rich gastronomic tradition. Among the most consumed products in this market, mussels, squid, salmon and hake stand out.

The Commercial Director of ProChile in Spain, Gabriel Guggisberg, explains that "the growth of exports to this market is the result of the progress of the internationalization and product diversification strategy driven by ProChile with user companies. Being present at international trade fairs such as Seafood Barcelona is a key opportunity for companies to continue establishing business contacts, explore new market trends and strengthen the Chilean presence in the industry at a global level".

Focus on Innovation.

In response to the consumption trend of seafood due to its health benefits, the Chilean supply has adopted new technologies in the processing and preservation of seafood, with advanced refrigeration and freezing techniques, and also in the type of packaging, to maintain the quality and freshness of the products.

"Spanish consumers prefer ready-to-serve and frozen products. And we see interest in lesser-known species and innovative products," points out the Director of ProChile in Spain.
