Chile Data Centers: First Data Centers Association Launched in Chile

The companies that comprise this new group include Ascenty, Data Center Dynamics, EdgeConneX, Equinix, NextStream, Odata, and Scala.

An important advancement for the technology industry in Chile materialized with the official launch of the new Chilean Association of Data Centers, under the name Chile Data Centers, an entity formed by the main technological infrastructure companies.

The companies that make up this new group are Ascenty, Data Center Dynamics, EdgeConneX, Equinix, NextStream, Odata and Scala, all organizations belonging to the digital infrastructure industry with a presence in the country.

The meeting brought together various companies from the country, government authorities, and representatives of organizations related to the industry, with the aim of presenting the goals and directive of the new guild. In this instance, Catalina Achermann was also introduced as the general manager of the Association, who will lead the implementation of the guild's strategic initiatives. Likewise, a panel was held with representatives from the founding organizations to discuss the "Opportunities of Chile as a Data Center Hub".

Francisco Basoalto, General Manager of Equinix Chile and who assumes the presidency of Chile Data Centers, explains: "The Association was born in response to the industry's concern about the challenges for the development of data centers and for Chile to maintain its positioning as a Digital Hub in the Latin American region. To be the voice of our sector and promote the economic importance of data centers in the country's technological development."

"We aim to be catalysts for digital talent in Chile, promoting the generation of high-value jobs that strengthen the country's digital ecosystem and contribute to the growth of specialized talent. The Association is committed to working hand-in-hand with the public sector, in line with initiatives such as the National Data Centers Plan, to consolidate an infrastructure that drives technological, economic, and sustainable development across the territory," highlights Gonzalo Atán, country manager of NextStream Chile and vice-president of the Association.

Chile Data Centers connects market-leading data centers and high-quality providers in Chile with a mission: to strengthen economic growth and shape the data center sector before the government, industry, academia, media, and society.

During the launch event, the Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Aisén Etcheverry, emphasized the relevance of the Association to advance in the objectives of the National Data Centers Plan promoted by the Government.

In her intervention, she recognized the strategic role of Chile Data Centers in the construction of a modern and sustainable digital infrastructure: "Today is a very important day for those of us who have been working in technology for years. We know that terms like 'Data Center' are no longer a secret for many of us, but we also understand that technological knowledge is advancing at an unprecedented speed. Having not only the infrastructure, but a community that supports this development, allows Chile to be an active and relevant part in this constantly growing and evolving digital world", the minister stated.

The new Data Center Association in Chile is established with the purpose of promoting the development, construction, and operation of data centers in the country, promoting sustainability and competitiveness standards in the national economy. Among its main objectives are:

Sectoral Representation and Defense: Act as a spokesperson for the sector before public and private entities to promote common interests, fostering a favorable and stable regulatory environment, contributing to the development of policies that encourage sustainable practices in the industry.

Promotion of sustainable investment and productivity: Attracting direct investment in green infrastructure for data centers and improving the sector's competitiveness in Chile, with the aim of positioning the country as a leader in digital technology and sustainability in the region.

Drive for Innovation and Talent: Coordinate training activities and talent development, with a focus on responsible and sustainable practices, such as energy efficiency, waste management, and use of renewable energies.

●  Promotion of sustainable practices in industry: Publishing market studies and analyses with a focus on sustainability, as well as promoting the use of technical and ethical standards to reduce the environmental footprint of data centers.

Creation of alliances and collaborative projects: Establish synergies with governmental entities to develop sustainable digital transformation projects, and promote events and meetings that reinforce the presence of the sector in the field of sustainability.

Dissemination of knowledge and environmental awareness: Providing information to media, authorities and society about the importance of responsible practices in data centers, positioning the sector as a key pillar in the development of a sustainable digital infrastructure in Chile.

During this last quarter of the year and the beginning of 2025, the Association will focus on the formation of its team, recruiting new members and partners who wish to join it, in addition to forming thematic work tables that allow it to begin to advance in its outlined objectives.
