Acquora: The Chilean startup managing mining waters from Space
Acquora uses satellite imagery, multispectral analysis, and machine learning to provide specific data for water resource management and environmental impact.
In pursuit of safe and sustainable mining contributing to the global energy transition, the Chilean startup Acquora is transforming the industry with a unique combination of space technologies applied to one of the sector's most critical challenges: water management in mining tailings, which represents a cost of $10 million annually per deposit.
For this, Acquora extracts satellite images from 15 multispectral bands, meteorological data, and IoT; it analyzes them by combining AI, Machine Learning, and Quantum computing; and thus allows measuring, monitoring, and managing multiple operations on a single screen for all involved, from managers, controllers to operators.
With 18,000 tailings around the world and increasingly stringent regulations, the mining industry needs scalable and non-invasive solutions through an integrated data system that measures, monitors, and manages the key parameters of its critical operations, such as tailings. It is in this context that Acquora seeks to lead, as a low-friction SaaS platform that integrates data, automates, and predicts with zero risk; preventing ecological, social, and economic catastrophes.
The sustainable digitization of industries is driving mining to double its extraction. Water is a crucial resource, the true "gold of mining". Through its efficient management, we ensure the reduction of operating costs, allowing mining to move towards sustainability, fundamental to creating clean value chains from the very first stage of every industry. Acquora enables this transformation, modernizing mining processes hand in hand with the environment," indicates Ada Guelfand, CEO of Acquora.

Acquora's plans are ambitious. This year they won first place in the Telespazio T-Tec space technologies contest; while by 2025 they have planned their expansion to the United States and entry into the market; meanwhile, by 2026 they will diversify their applications towards other markets.

Acquora's technology represents a radical shift in the monitoring of critical mining operations. Its 100% spatial approach integrates satellite observation and artificial intelligence to transform the management of mining tailings.

In this context, Aster, a startup accelerator based in Antofagasta and backed by Escondida | BHP, saw in Acquora an important value for mining, which is why they summoned them to be part of their portfolio, where they have already managed to participate in the recent Aster Mining Meeting that brought together leading companies in the mining sector and associated fields, in an event designed to enhance connections and networks.
"The acceleration program at Aster has been an incredible experience, providing us with direct access to the mining sector, as well as the startup ecosystem to continue nurturing our solution through their mentoring programs and the networking opportunities they offer," said the CEO.
