Swedish trade mission visited Chile to boost investments in electromobility and infrastructure

Led by companies such as Volvo and ABB, the delegation promoted innovative solutions in electric mobility, airport infrastructure, and sustainable transportation, aiming to materialize new investments in the country.

A delegation of prominent Swedish companies visited Chile this week, accompanying Sweden's Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Andreas Carlson, with the aim of identifying new business and investment opportunities in key sectors such as electric mobility and airport infrastructure. The visit took place within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between Chile and Sweden in June 2024, which promotes sustainable transportation and road safety.

The visit was conducted under the umbrella of Team Sweden, a network of public bodies and Swedish agencies promoting exports and investments in Sweden. The mission sought not only to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries, but also to foster cooperation in strategic areas for the economic and sustainable development of Chile.

Among the Swedish companies that participated in this mission were Volvo Group (bus division), Atlas Copco, IBG, and SAAB, ABB, Consat and Trafikverket. These companies sought to reflect their experience and leadership in key areas for sustainable development in transportation and infrastructure in the country.

The trade mission will also facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices between Sweden and Chile, bringing the Swedish ecosystem of sustainable mobility and civil aviation closer, positioning Sweden as a pioneering market in the creation of new technologies focused on sustainability.

The main objective of the mission was to identify specific areas where Swedish companies can provide solutions that promote the growth of key sectors in Chile, such as electric mobility, digitalization of the transport sector, aeronautical infrastructure and air traffic. With the support of Team Sweden, the delegation sought to establish strategic alliances focused on a sustainable future.

The trade mission aligns with Chile's National Sustainable Mobility Strategy, which aims to transform urban mobility towards a greener and more efficient model by the year 2050. The delegation also placed special emphasis on the Airports Plan for Chile, a project that will boost air connectivity in 19 airports across 15 regions, with an estimated investment of US$ 3.282 billion.

"This is a key step to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Chile and Sweden, in sectors that are at the heart of Chile's development plans. With our knowledge in sustainable mobility and advanced technology in civil aviation and transport, we are convinced that this mission will open new doors for cooperation and investment in Chile," affirmed Jesper Bernhardsson, Sweden's Trade Commissioner for Chile and Regional Manager of Business Sweden Chile.

Globally, from 2019 to 2023, investments from the Nordic country have grown by 5.4%.
