Drawings Machines: Startup Integrates Machine Learning to Create Electrical Drawings in 10 Minutes

Drawings Machines arose as a response to the growing need within professionals in the construction sector to have error-free designs that were produced in a short time.

Addressing a need, and finding a solution through innovation and the application of advanced technology, is what Drawings Machines did, a Chilean startup and pioneer in integrating machine learning algorithms to prepare plans for electrical projects.

The algorithm they designed allows the automation of processes that were traditionally developed manually, which translates into significant time savings and the elimination of errors when submitting projects to regulatory bodies, such as the Superintendence of Electricity and Fuels (SEC).

Bernardo Castillo, an SEC-certified industrial and electrical maintenance engineer, as well as the founder of the company, points out that “our proposal allows the client significant savings in time and in the elimination of errors when making a presentation to an organization.”

According to him, this means that “processing times are reduced by 75%, which not only represents cost savings, but also a positive impact in terms of energy efficiency and error-free standardization of drawings.”

And how does it work? As Navarro explains: “Machine learning is used for the visual detection of the elements contained in a sketch that is then uploaded to the platform by the customers themselves. This is reviewed by a staff to avoid labeling errors or in performance in general, to meet our commitment of 0 errors.” This takes just over 10 minutes and complies with regulations.

The company, which operates mainly in a remote format, has received support from Corfo, which financed 75% of the project’s cost with the Semilla Inicia fund. Added to this is the fact that it is part of the portfolio of the 3IE Institute, the incubator of the Federico Santa María Technical University, which collaborated with the definition of the business model and the integration of the different areas necessary for the success of the company, among other things.

Drawings Machines plans to expand beyond the initial electrical sector, with the ability to apply its algorithm to other professional disciplines, such as gas installations, among others.
