Vertical Plan: Startup provides solutions to wind farms in Chile

Since its inception, the year 2021, they have internally inspected 1,539 blades located in 11 wind farms and repaired 66 blades in five countries.

In the context of a continuously evolving market with an increasing focus on renewable energy, Plan Vertical, a Chilean startup, emerges. It offers specialized rope access services in wind parks on a national and international level.

Founded by Hernán Peñafiel and Rodrigo Garrido, both architects with a Master's in Real Estate Economics, with years of experience in the construction and high-rise painting sector. Their trajectory includes managing post-earthquake reconstruction projects and creating specialized business units, which has allowed them to acquire vast applicable experience in the wind industry, thus positioning Plan Vertical as an innovative and high-quality solution in the energy sector in Chile.

"The creation of Vertical Plan is a combination of experience, strategic vision and adaptation to new opportunities. Together with Rodrigo, we identified a business opportunity in the vertical work sector, specifically in the energy niche, where there was also little specialization. This motivated us to create the company where we saw ensured growth in the coming years," explains Hernán Peñafiel, CEO of Vertical Plan.

He adds that, "The company aims to be a key player in Chile's sustainable development, contributing to the change of the energy matrix and ensuring long-term continuity and growth".

FIRST STEPS IN CENTRAL AMERICA

Despite the fact that the focus of these professionals was always on Chile, circumstances and opportunities led them to start their first projects in Central America in 2021.

"Starting a business outside of our country provided us with an invaluable global perspective. Upon returning, we applied those lessons learned to improve and adapt to local needs with a broader vision and a more solid strategy," Peñafiel comments.

Already with their operations in Chile, in the year 2022, there arose the financial need to raise funds to finance the projects that were being awarded, so they decided to add Alejandro Rivas to the company, a financial advisor for companies with extensive experience in financing, Commercial Engineer PUC, and former banker. Alejandro is the current CFO of the organization who is behind the development of financial planning and commercial prospecting.

Since its inception, in the year 2021, they have internally inspected 1,539 blades, externally there are 64, located in 11 wind farms and repaired 66 blades in five countries. By mid-2024, Vertical Plan has already carried out work in six parks in Chile, and in the second half of the year they plan to add four more projects, some in the south.

COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABILITY

Vertical Plan has a boutique-style structure, where managements are involved in every detail of the service, offering direct and personalized communication with clients.

"By providing services in the wind sector, Plan Vertical significantly contributes to the incorporation of clean energy into Chile's energy matrix. The company is committed not only to the sustainability of its services, but also to sustainable practices in its operations," explains Rodrigo Garrido, COO Plan Vertical.

The startup plans to expand its services and strengthen the value chain through the sale of supplies and support in setups.

"Since our departure, we have grown at double-digit rates, numbers we hope to maintain in the coming years, growing in our current services, but in a controlled manner to maintain our high quality standards, and adding new complementary business lines," explains Alejandro Rivas, CFO of Plan Vertical.

The company is preparing for a future of growth and consolidation in the wind service market, seeking to establish ties with international players and continue innovating to meet the needs of an ever-evolving sector.
