Showcase Foodtech Los Lagos: The 10 startups that seek to revolutionize the food industry in Chile and the world

The event will feature 4 salmon farming startups, 2 from the agribusiness sector and 4 from the area of well-being and functional foods.

This Thursday, April 11, the first Foodtech Showcase of the Corfo Cowo Incubator will be held, an event in which 10 startups that seek to revolutionize the food industry nationally and globally from the Los Lagos Region will participate.

Four salmon farming startups, two from the agro-industrial sector and four from the area of well-being and functional foods will be presented at the event.

The event is 100% online and will take place this Thursday, April 11 from 3:00 p.m. (Chile and the United States, Washington, D.C.), 9:00 p.m. (Spain, Madrid), 4:00 p.m. (Brazil, Brasilia), 1:00 p.m. (Mexico, Mexico City).

MEET THE 10 STARTUPS

Aquaculture Sector (salmon farming)
  • Inkus: challenge conventional aquaculture by fusing AI and complex algorithms to deliver efficient solutions that maximize production and minimize environmental impact.
  • AquaTrace: promises to be a solution that redefines waste traceability in the salmon industry. In addition to complying with high sustainability standards, turning waste management into opportunities, both for the industry and for communities.
  • Nalca Biotech: aims to accelerate an industry that will revolutionize the food of the future with so-called precision fermentation. In addition, they support companies to scale their production capacity using continuous production technology and automation.
  • Tierwoohl: startup dedicated to enhancing processes with innovative strategies, backed by artificial intelligence (AI), venturing into the automatic monitoring of fish by obtaining weight and size data.
Agro-industrial sector
  • Agrolink: offer comprehensive solutions for small and medium-scale agriculture, allowing farmers to increase their productivity, reduce operating costs and improve the quality of their products.
  • Cooperativa Agrícola Eco Cultivadores: its purpose is to improve the quality of life of people with celiac disease, allergies and gluten sensitivity, producing healthy and functional food, free of gluten based on buckwheat.
Wellness & Functional Foods Sector
  • Patagon Biolabs: is a line of foods for daily consumption, with functional value that contributes to strengthening cognitive reserve and reducing the prevalence of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
  • Nova Agro: a company dedicated to the sale of natural fertilizers, promoting sustainability in agriculture and the circular economy.
  • Nomadic: they develop food using R+D+i, avoiding food waste and contributing to the environmental ecosystem through functional, long-lasting, high nutritional density and easy to transport food.
  • Mind Plus: a project of SystemBiotech, which creates foods supplemented with psychobiotic bacteria to improve and prevent mental health problems. MindPlus yogurt incorporates neurotransmitter-releasing bacteria, supporting mental health from the gut/brain axis.

Gabriel Pérez, regional director of Corfo Los Lagos, highlighted the event as a way to connect startups in southern Chile with companies and venture capital, “We believe that this activity, online, open and free, is a great opportunity to make visible and support startups that are daring to innovate in sectors that are fundamental for the development of our region.”

Meanwhile, Alejandro Velázquez, Director of Cowo Incubadora Corfo highlighted the great interest that the event has aroused, even from other countries “we believe that we are generating a great pole of development of startups in pre-seed and seed phases, there is more and more interest from companies, who are opening up to listen to possible solutions that are generated in the same territory, and even with interest from other countries, that is why we have opened registration to interested people from the United States, Spain, Brazil and Mexico, who have contacted us to learn about what is happening in the south of Chile in terms of food innovation.”

The event will be attended virtually by large corporations or companies, investment funds, angel networks and venture builders, health food stores, food product distributors and maquila plants.
