Google blocked 1.75 million apps in 2025: Android Security
In their annual report, they detailed how they were battling increasingly sophisticated attacks bolstered by AI to keep the Android ecosystem safe for billions of people around the world.
In Google, a comprehensive report was delivered on its work in security, combating applications and threats that cause real-world damage, including malware, fraud, and data abuse. In their annual report, they detailed how they have been fighting against increasingly preferred attacks —powered by AI— to keep the Android ecosystem safe for millions of people around the world.
"As malicious actors leverage AI to alter their tactics and launch increasingly sophisticated attacks, we have deepened our investments in AI and real-time defenses over the past year to stay ahead and stop these threats before they reach users," they highlight in their report.
Among the Key Main Results Were:
- Google prevented the publication of over 1.75 million applications that violated policies on Google Play.
- They suspended over 80,000 accounts of malicious developers, further enhancing user protection.
- They expanded fraud protection, blocking 266 million attempts to install risky apps in 185 markets.

These data demonstrate how proactive protections and detection through AI are neutralizing threats before they reach consumers. How did they achieve this?
- AI-enhanced detection: Integrating advanced AI models into the review process to identify complex malicious patterns more quickly.
- Prevention of unnecessary access to sensitive data: More than 255,000 apps were prevented from excessively accessing private data, reinforcing privacy policies.
- Spam review and rating block: Blocked 160 million fake reviews, preventing manipulation and protecting trust in Google Play.
- Protection for children and families: They added new layers of security to prevent minors from accessing potentially harmful content.
Google Play Protect continues to evolve as Android's integrated defense, scanning over 350 billion applications per day. Thanks to its real-time protections, the system identified over 27 million new malicious apps outside the official store in 2025.
As Android's integrated defense against malware and unwanted software, Google Play Protect now scans over 350 billion Android applications daily. This proactive protection continuously checks both Play apps and those from other sources to ensure they are not potentially harmful," they stated in their report.
"In 2025, we focus on reducing friction for developers and providing them with tools to protect their businesses," they added.

Looking Towards the Future
From the tech giant, they indicated that the main priority continues to be making Google Play and Android the most trustworthy app ecosystems for everyone. "This year, we will continue to invest in AI-driven defenses to stay at the forefront of emerging threats and equip Android developers with the tools they need to create applications securely".
"To empower developers who distribute their applications on Google Play, we will maintain our focus on incorporating controls to help create applications that comply with standards by design, while providing guidance to proactively prevent policy violations before an application is published. We will also implement checks for Android developers to hold bad actors accountable and prevent them from hiding behind anonymity to cause repeated harm." they maintained.
