Chilean-Finnish startup develops a browser resistant to phishing and malware

As a Browser-as-a-Service (BaaS), one of its objectives is to be modular and affordable for all types of businesses. Additionally, they have just closed an initial capital raise of USD 350,000.

In a global landscape where digital security and data protection have become critical for any organization, the Chilean-Finnish startup dME has developed a solution aiming to become the world's largest: a corporate web browser specifically designed to tackle cybersecurity and regulatory compliance challenges for companies of all sizes.

Its purpose is clear: to simplify risk management and reduce operational complexity—one of the biggest threats to digital security today. "90% of business operations take place in browsers and SaaS applications, exposing companies to multiple vulnerabilities," says Juan Oliva, co-founder of dME.

"Most existing browsers were designed for consumers and carry over 20 years of technical debt. They lack the control mechanisms and governance required for modern businesses," adds the CEO/CPO of the Chilean-Finnish startup.

An all-in-one platform for modern business cybersecurity

Unlike traditional solutions that require the implementation of multiple cybersecurity tools (VDI, SWG, DLP, ZTNA, among others), dME acts as a single platform that natively integrates security, compliance, and management.

This 'all-in-one' approach is designed to reduce the complexity of installing and managing multiple isolated systems. dME achieves this by providing a trusted environment with data encryption, secure access, and comprehensive activity auditing.

Additionally, the platform is designed to ensure "compliance by default," automatically assisting organizations in complying with current data protection and privacy regulations—a growing requirement in markets worldwide.

The startup was co-founded by Cristopher Coopman, former CTO of Emprende tu Mente, and serial entrepreneur Juan Oliva, who has experience in Finland, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. Oliva also played a key role in securing the initial funding and assembling a team of collaborators, all from the Nordic region.

The startup highlights its global potential. "We project that, by 2030, there will be 1.5 billion work devices and at least 15 million devices protected with dME," predicts Coopman. "Our business model is designed for scalable and sustainable growth, allowing us not only to serve large corporations but also to offer free plans and self-service solutions for SMEs".

A 150 Trillion Dollar Market

According to internal figures, the total market for this type of cybersecurity solutions is projected at USD 150 billion by 2030, with double-digit annual growth. For the company, this means a great opportunity to compete with industry giants, but with a different approach: a modular and affordable model, for both large companies with advanced requirements and startups beginning in digitization.

The dME browser, moreover, seeks to position itself as a "set it and forget it" solution, where IT teams can implement and monitor security without the need to deploy multiple complex platforms. With auditing and traceability tools, it allows controlling access, preventing data loss (DLP), and protecting work environments even on personal devices (BYOD).

Ambitious and Global Goals

At the moment, in the last three months (November 2024 to date), they have already included 6 companies and more than 700 devices during the development of their closed pilot program, and by 2030 they aspire to exceed 15 million insured devices.

On this path, they have just finished an initial capital raise process of USD 350 thousand dollars, with the objective of refining and consolidating their Product Market Fit. In order to do this, they will expand their team to accelerate product development and updates, in addition to launching a self-service online model. All of these will allow them to scale to other markets, customers, and seek Series A investment in the United States by the end of 2025.

"Our vision is to redefine how companies work online", offering a solution that allows them to operate with peace of mind, without risking sensitive data or losing efficiency by using complex and fragmented tools," says Christopher Coopman.

dME aims to establish itself as a reference in a constantly growing market that is increasingly demanding cutting-edge security solutions. In line with this, they have just gone through the acceleration program of the Demo Day Draper Founders Program in Punta del Este, Uruguay. This initiative will make them part of the Hero Training program of Draper University (from the billionaire investor Tim Draper) which will run for a period of five weeks in San Francisco, United States, between May and June of 2025.
