Businesswomen hold a seminar on sustainable food in Ñuble

The initiative, co-financed by a Corfo Social Innova, brought together consumers, producers, students, advisors and professionals from the agricultural world.

About 70 people from different communes of the Ñuble Region participated in the Sustainable Food Seminar, organized by the company DEAKI, whose objective was to highlight the importance of promoting agroecological practices and a greater involvement of consumers in food production processes.

The activity, which took place on April 10 at the Inia Quilamapu auditorium in Chillán , was developed within the framework of a Social Innovation project co-financed by Corfo, which seeks to implement a collaborative business model, with local producers, to market fruits, vegetables and processed foods from Ñuble, all produced without the use of chemicals and respecting organic farming production protocols, as well as transfer knowledge to the communities of these techniques and the attributes of this type of food.

“Today’s life is characterized by being increasingly accelerated and global, where healthy practices that were linked to the family and traditional rural life have been lost. Thinking about the well-being of communities and people, our company set up this seminar, whose purpose is to highlight the concept of sustainable food and raise awareness of practices and food systems that are capable of being maintained over time, without depleting natural resources or damaging the environment, ensuring the well-being of people,” explained Oriana Burgos, leader of the company and the project.

The regional director of Corfo, Macarena Dávila, highlighted the initiative and valued that the project addresses and proposes a new model that responds to a problem that has not been sufficiently visible in our society.

“Through this Social Innovation project, a proposal is generated that addresses a problem that affects people’s health and the environment, which has to do with production techniques and the use of pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers in food. This initiative provides tools to small farmers in our region and proposes a collaborative and sustainable marketing model that contributes to the local economy. We congratulate DEAKI for this great initiative.”, the authority said.

The seminar was attended by prominent speakers such as Agustín Infante, from CET Bío Bío, who referred to the evolution of agroecology and the beneficial effects of its practices; Denis Herrera, nutritionist, who explained the advantages of eating foods not treated with chemicals; and Oriana Burgos and Jazmín Palma, both executive directors of DEAKI, who explained the scope of the project.

“When choosing food products, people should take into account some criteria that have to do with the harm or benefit that the production and distribution of these products generates in the environment, such as their carbon footprint, the use of chemicals in the production process, the use of land and other factors that impact our environment and people’s quality of life,” Oriana Burgos said.
