BondUP: Chiles first social network designed for seniors to find new friends

Through a web platform, it is possible to connect with new friends and groups that share interests in an easy, safe and entertaining way.

A recent report by the UC-Confuturo Aging Observatory revealed that more than half a million Chilean seniors live alone, and 32% of them have no friends, negatively impacting their health and quality of life.

The report reveals that as social contacts increase, life satisfaction also increases, while depressive symptoms tend to decrease. 87.6% of people who have 4 to 5 social contacts feel satisfied with their lives, compared to those who have only one contact.

Under the mission of delivering happiness and making it easier for older people to have a social, active and happy life, BondUP was born, the first social network in Latin America designed exclusively for people over 55 years of age.

BondUP is a web platform that currently has more than 5,000 active users. This platform allows the connection between people and groups who share similar interests through its entertainment marketplace, offering events, workshops and activities organized by companies, individuals and seniors, either in person or online. The main objective of BondUP is to generate meeting spaces that encourage socialization.

Registration on the activity platform is completely free. Additionally, there is the option to sign up for one of the BondUP plans, which includes health and wellness benefits starting at $3,990 per month. With this option, users can have unlimited access to online psychology sessions, both for the primary user and for two more loads.

This platform not only focuses on improving the loneliness and mental health rates of the elderly, but also seeks to democratize health services for this segment.

We have observed that there is currently no accessible supply of specialized health services for older people. Understanding the economic reality of this generation, we decided to democratize the fundamental health services that directly impact their quality of life” said Michelle Schnitzer Raab, Co-Founder and CEO of BondUP.

Through entertainment, health and wellness tools, BondUP managed to reduce the loneliness index of users through more than 500 social encounters generated in 2023.

The web platform has a presence in all the communes of the Metropolitan Region and in cities such as Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, Concepción, La Serena and, soon, in Arica, Antofagasta and Iquique. One of the main challenges for 2024 is to reach at least 50,000 users and consolidate itself as the channel of connection between brands and the elderly.

Currently, companies such as Caja Los Andes, the Municipality of Providencia and Mall Plaza are already part of the network.
